Open Educational Resources (OER) are educational materials that are freely accessible and can be edited, adapted, and shared without copyright infringement. This course introduces the concept of OER to students and educators in higher education, emphasizing its significance as a key educational policy issue supported by organizations like UNESCO and its role in promoting “Open Science.”
Course overview
Over four weeks, participants will explore the background and potential of OER, learn how to use open-licensed materials, and discover where to find and publish OER. The curriculum covers Creative Commons licenses such as CC-0, CC BY, and CC BY-SA. Each unit includes engaging videos, advanced reading materials, self-assessments, and a discussion forum for collaborative learning. This structure encourages reflection and discussion among participants, enhancing their understanding of the topic.
Certification and languages
Active participants will receive a confirmation of participation from iMooX.at and Open Badges for completed units. The course is offered in multiple languages, including German, French, Indonesian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, Catalan, and English, tailored to various regional contexts.
This MOOC is part of the Unite! OER courses project involving nine universities in the European University Alliance Unite!. Participants can also enroll in the in-depth course Open Educational Resources at TU Graz for further exploration, making this an excellent opportunity for those interested in enhancing their teaching and learning practices.
