Course Description:

Multimedia Creation for Education is a handson, in-person course designed for teachers, educators, and trainers seeking to enhance their teaching materials and learner engagement through the use of freely available online design tools. The course introduces participants to the fundamentals of multimedia design and provides the practical skills needed to create visually

compelling, pedagogically effective materials suited for both classroom and online learning environments.

The course begins with an overview of how multimedia supports learning outcomes, highlighting the role of visual design, digital storytelling, and user-friendly content in modern education. Participants are introduced to key design principles including layout, typography, visual hierarchy, colour theory, and accessibility. Emphasis is placed on creating content that is inclusive, engaging, and adaptable to diverse learner needs. Participants are then guided through a series of hands-on activities using intuitive, browser-based design platforms that require no prior graphic design experience.

The course covers the creation of a wide range of media types, including:

Social media graphics for school announcements, classroom updates, or educational campaigns, formatted for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and X;
Presentation slides with animations and transitions for lessons, webinars, or staff development sessions;
Event and classroom posters to promote activities, rules, or learning themes;
Flyers, brochures, and newsletters for parent communication or school events;
Infographics to simplify complex ideas into visual summaries or revision aids;
Short educational videos and animated explainers with transitions, music, and text overlays;
Basic website pages suitable for projects, portfolios, or school/classroom hubs;
Photo editing for enhancing classroom visuals or documenting events; and
Other design assets including logos, digital certificates, resumes, and personalised teaching resources.

Educators work both individually and in pairs, applying design thinking strategies to ensure that the multimedia they create aligns with educational goals, curriculum objectives, and student engagement strategies. Peer reviews, facilitator feedback, and group discussions are integrated throughout to promote reflective practice and continuous improvement.

Each participant will leave the course with a ready-to-use set of multimedia materials and a clear understanding of how to continue creating engaging, inclusive content using freely accessible tools. The course fosters not only digital creation skills but also a creative mindset that supports innovation in educational delivery.

As such, in terms of learning outcomes, by the end of the course, participants will be able to:

a) Design and create a variety of multimedia materials, such as posters, infographics, presentations, videos, and digital documents, using freely available online tools;
b) Apply key design principles, including layout, colour theory, typography, and visual hierarchy, to produce clear and engaging educational content;
c) Enhance and edit visual materials such as photos and illustrations to support effective teaching and communication;
d) Understand the role of multimedia in improving learner engagement, accessibility, and comprehension across different educational contexts;
e) Align multimedia content with curriculum objectives and adapt materials to suit diverse audiences and delivery platforms; and
