This report by Cedefop predicts the expected impact of digital transformation on employment within the EU by 2030, using the Cedefop’s Skills Forecasting Model. The report considers the intersection between digitalisation, digital skills, learning and analysing how these elements influence on employment across various sectors and occupations.

According to the findings, significant employment growth is expected in sectors such as programming, research and development, as well as telecommunications, due to the increasing demand for AI-related skills. However, particularly sectors relying on routine and repetitive tasks are expected to see significant decrease in employment include wholesale, retail trade, and the construction sector.

The study also delves into the ramifications of automation and AI on the workforce and shows that despite the likelihood of job displacement, automation also has the potential to create new jobs in the future. These new roles will emphasise skills like emotional intelligence, creativity, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving. Additionally, the study stresses the importance of investing in upskilling workers to remain competitive on a rapidly evolving job market.
