The Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) proudly launches the Minecraft Education Challenge: Malta Competition which is an initiative that combines creativity, coding, and digital storytelling through Minecraft Education Edition. Minecraft is more than a game, it is a platform for learning, teamwork, and problem-solving. Students will use coding and design to imagine a Digital Malta, where technology protects heritage, supports communities, and connects the future.
Competition Categories
π§ Primary Schools (Ages 7β11)
Goal: Digitally recreate a Maltese landmark.
Requirement: Include at least one function automating a simple action.
π¦ Lower Secondary (Ages 12β14)
Goal: Modernise a Maltese town or district.
Requirement: Include two interactive systems using functions or conditional logic.
π¨βπ Upper Secondary (Ages 14+)
Goal: Build Digital Malta 2100.
Requirement: Include three interactive systems using functions, conditions, and events.
π Competition Prize Terms and Conditions
1. Prize Structure
β’ Each of the three age categories will be awarded a prize of β¬1500.
β’ The prize is awarded to the school represented by the winning team, not to individual participants.
2. Purpose and Use of Funds
β’ The prize must be used to enhance the digital literacy of the winning team’s school.
β’ Eligible uses include the procurement of hardware, software, or training directly related to digital literacy improvement.
β’ The prize is non-transferable and must be used solely for the benefit of the winning school.
3. Claim and Disbursement
β’ To claim the prize, the representing teacher must submit valid invoices by 1st November 2026.
β’ If the teacher is no longer affiliated with the school at the time of submission, the school must appoint an alternative representative to complete the claim process.
4. Verification and Compliance
β’ The organising body reserves the right to verify the authenticity of submitted invoices and the relevance of purchases.
β’ Any misuse of funds or failure to comply with these terms may result in forfeiture of the prize.
β’ Decisions of the organising body shall be final.
5. Eligibility
β’ Only schools officially registered in the competition are eligible to receive the prize.
6. Amendments and Disputes
β’ These Terms and Conditions may be updated or amended at any time by the organizers.
β’ Any disputes shall be resolved in accordance with Maltese law.

Each team will submit a short video showcasing their creation. This challenge promotes STEM, history, and environmental learning, while fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
