The postgraduate program of the Department of Digital Systems of the University of Piraeus refers to the development, implementation, operation, maintenance (maintenance) and management (governance) of digital technology systems that are either intended for operation within businesses and organisations or are provided as services for use by businesses and organisations.
It is distinguished in the following three specialisations:
- Advanced Information Systems: in order to provide all the necessary knowledge and skills for graduates to analyse, plan, realise and manage information systems.
- Big Data and Analytics: Given that the concept of big data promotes new opportunities for economic growth, while their real dynamics are still difficult to assess, the purpose of the specialisation is to promote scientific knowledge and research that will enable graduates to directly staff entities that either use, make available to third parties or build information systems.
- IT Governance: It refers to a wide range of technical-administrative actions undertaken with the main objectives of aligning the digital strategy with the operational strategy of businesses/organisations, ensuring that businesses/organisations are committed to their strategies and objectives, and applying best practices to measure the efficiency of digital investments. The aim of this specialisation is to train people with the appropriate knowledge and skills in various issues of IT governance that, in essence, refer to the pre- development, on -development and after-development phases of digital technology in the enterprise/organisation.
The duration of study at the Postgraduate Programme “Information Systems & Services” for the award of the MDE is set in three (3) semesters (1st and 2nd didactic, 3 rd elaboration of Postgraduate Diploma Thesis).
In fact, following the collaboration of the MSc with the SAS Institute, students who complete the SAS Academic Specialisation program are provided with the digital signal, which the student can use electronically to declare the SAS Academic Specialisation.
Why is it a good practice?
Since 2004, the year of launch of the program, to date more than 1000 students have graduated, equipped with the skills and knowledge required by the Greek, European and global digital markets. Many of them are already employed in enterprises and organisations in the public or private sector or are developing their research skills in order to generate new knowledge in the area of Analytical Big Data, in the area of Advanced Information Systems and in the area of IT Governance.
This programme not only focuses on the use of the most modern digital technologies, methods and tools, but the above three specialisations correspond to the most modern and dynamic in the field of digital systems. In particular, they cover important scientific specialisation needs for the digital economy while, at the same time, they are key digital pillars for the development of other sectors of the economy. As a result, the programme is directly linked to the labour market. Finally, it is worth noting that the curriculum is updated every year, in order to continuously follow the rapid developments, which in the field of Information Technology and Communications are rapid.
