From zero to hero with Python: a workshop by BioNT
BioNT (BIO Network for Training) is an international consortium focused on delivering digital skills training for the biotechnology and biomedical sectors. From November 21 to November 24, 2023, this 2-day online workshop will take place from 18:00 to 21:00 (CET) and provides a practical introduction to Python 3 programming for beginners. Participants will explore essential concepts such as setting up the Python environment, using variables, loops, and functions, as well as working with data manipulation and visualization through Pandas and Matplotlib.
Who should attend and what you’ll learn
This workshop is designed for anyone new to Python programming, especially those in the life sciences. It will cover Python basics, from managing variables to using loops, functions, and conditionals. You will also dive into data handling, learning how to manage and analyze tabular data with Pandas, and create visualizations using Matplotlib within the Jupyter Notebook environment.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped with the skills to manage data, write simple Python programs, and generate visual plots—all key tools for working with biological data.
Registration and participation
Participants need a basic understanding of files and directories, a laptop with Python 3 installed, and administrative access. No prior programming experience is required. The workshop is free to attend but has limited spots. To join, you must register by October 9, 2023, through the CECAM platform. The sessions will be conducted online via Zoom, with interactive participation facilitated through a collaborative document for anonymous communication with trainers and peers.
This workshop is hosted online by CECAM-HQ, offering flexible access while maintaining an interactive and supportive learning environment. To actively communicate during the workshop, participants are advised to familiarise themselves with Markdown formatting by reviewing the HedgeDoc features document.
