On 7 November, for the third consecutive year, 300 teams of Riga secondary school students will take up logic tasks inspired by Harvard University in the game Riga Puzzle Day, which invites young people to develop creative thinking, logic and teamwork skills. The event is organised by Riga City Council together with Riga Business School (RBS), in cooperation with Luminor, Code4Europe project, Brain Games, MyFitness and IT Education Foundation.
The goal of the logic game Riga Puzzle Day is to encourage young people to solve non-standard problems and to promote interest in the development of STEM fields. The methodology of the game was developed at Harvard University and its tasks combine different skills that help prepare for future challenges.
The idea of the Harvard Logic Game has already become recognisable in Latvia – similar events have taken place in Ogre, Sigulda and Cēsis, involving more than 500 secondary school students in total. In 2022, RBS launched the Harvard Computer Science Course CS50 in Latvian schools, translating teaching materials and preparing 45 programming teachers. This content is also acquired by RBS Bachelor students who have chosen to study IT direction, and Riga Puzzle Day is a traditional event of this course, in which not only the participants of the course, but also their friends are invited to participate.
The event will be valuable not only for students, but also for teachers, as they will have the opportunity to participate in an information session that allows them to raise their professional and personal competence, get acquainted with the latest teaching methods and tools, as well as gain ideas for the improvement of their pedagogical practice.
