ChatGPT Edu: Artificial Intelligence enters Greek public schools for the first time

For the first time, artificial intelligence is entering the classroom of Greek public schools. ChatGPT Edu, a special edition of ChatGPT designed exclusively for educational environments, brings new tools and capabilities to students and teachers.

The programme is implemented by the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sport, the Onassis Foundation, OpenAI and the educational organisation The Tipping Point in Education, with the aim of transforming the educational experience in Greek schools.

The official presentation took place on 5 September in Thessaloniki, marking the start of an ambitious educational initiative.

ChatGPT Edu enhances the creative and critical use of artificial intelligence by offering:

• Personalized learning and support in student research
• Tools to design courses and improve teaching
• Developing digital literacy and critical thinking skills

With the Onassis Foundation as a strategic partner and The Tipping Point as a training partner, the programme promotes the responsible use of technology, with respect for personal data and equal access.

The first phase of the program was implemented in 2024 in 20 selected public Lyceums across the country, including Standard, Experimental and Onassis Schools.

Teachers were trained to understand the potential and challenges of artificial intelligence, while students experimented with ChatGPT Edu through participatory and creative lessons.

A school ready for the future

The aim of the programme is to create a more innovative and open school , where the value lies not only in the right answers but also in the brave questions.
At the same time, emphasis is placed on protecting personal data and enhancing equal access to digital education so that all students benefit from new technologies.
