All Digital Weeks in Malta

Malta proudly joined the Europe-wide All Digital Weeks 2025 campaign as a national coordinator, taking meaningful steps to foster digital empowerment among its young citizens. From 17 March to 4 April, a packed calendar of activities championed online safety, promoted careers in tech, and introduced hands-on digital learning to hundreds of participants. Organised in collaboration with the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) and local partners, this initiative aligned with Europe’s wider commitment to building digital citizenship.

The focus in Malta was clear: empower the youth. Through a series of webinars, tech talks, coding and robotics workshops, and industry visits, young people were immersed in real-world digital experiences. Activities such as the “Introduction to Additive Manufacturing” webinar and Girls in ICT talks offered inspiration, while practical sessions like CoderDojo and library-based coding workshops gave participants tangible skills.

Why does this matter? Despite rapid technological advances, the digital divide remains a significant challenge across Europe. According to Europass, 44% of Europeans still lack basic digital skills. With 90% of jobs now requiring such skills, initiatives like All Digital Weeks are more important than ever. In Malta, the gap is not only about access but also awareness. There’s a pressing need to better connect formal education with real-world tech applications particularly for those underrepresented in tech, like young girls.
The local programme addressed these concerns head-on. From online safety talks to immersive industry visits, it aimed to build digital confidence and broaden career horizons. Events were inclusive, community-driven, and designed to spark curiosity. Importantly, they helped demystify technology, shifting the mindset from passive consumption to active creation.

The campaign also responded to the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education, promoting not just skill acquisition, but responsible digital behaviour. This reflects MDIA’s broader mission: to ensure Malta’s digital transition is inclusive, ethical, and forward-looking.
As a nation, Malta must continue to bridge the gap between learning and innovation. All Digital Weeks was more than a calendar of events—it was a statement of intent. A reminder that every young person, regardless of background, deserves the opportunity to thrive in the digital age.
Let’s keep the momentum going. The future is digital and Malta’s youth are ready to lead it.
