The State of AI in the Enterprise 2026 report by Deloitte shows how organisations worldwide are scaling AI and what this means for workforce skills and business transformation. The report is based on a survey of more than 3,200 business and IT leaders across 24 countries who are directly involved in AI initiatives.
One of the report’s key findings is the rapid expansion of access to AI tools in the workplace. In just one year, the share of employees with access to sanctioned AI tools increased by 50%, reaching around 60% of workers. However, scaling AI remains a challenge: only 25% of organisations have moved at least 40% of their AI experiments into production, although many expect this to change in the future.
While AI is already improving productivity and efficiency, only 34% of companies are using it to significantly transform their business models. Most organisations are still focusing on optimising existing processes rather than redesigning them around AI.
The report also highlights the importance of workforce skills. Skills shortages remain the biggest barrier to AI adoption, and 84% of organisations have not yet redesigned jobs or workflows around AI capabilities.
As AI technologies continue to evolve, including the rise of autonomous AI agents and physical AI systems, organisations will increasingly need workers with strong digital and AI-related skills.
