Two Maltese educators have been recognised among the winners of the Code Week Digital Educator Awards 2025, a new initiative celebrating outstanding contributions to coding and digital literacy across Europe.

Among these distinguished awardees were two exceptional Maltese educators, whose work stood out for its innovation, inclusivity, and strong educational value.
Award Winner: Ms Enrica Caruana
Ms Enrica Caruana, an educator at St Joseph Junior School Sliema, won the Best Inclusion Focused Activity award with her initiative “Crack the Code – Goldilocks Sequence Debugging.” In her submission, Ms Caruana shared how she successfully applied the activity in class and adapted it for learners of varying ages and abilities. Her approach highlights how debugging can be made accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for all students, reinforcing the importance of inclusion in digital education.
Award Winner: Ms Natalie Lombardi Calleja
Meanwhile, Ms Natalie Lombardi Calleja, from the Digital Literacy team within the Secretariat for Catholic Education (SfCE), was honoured as Country Champion in the per‑quota category. In her recognition speech, she emphasised the strength of teamwork and the collaborative efforts taking place across Malta. She highlighted the close partnership between the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) and the Directorate for Digital Literacy & Transversal Skills (DDLTS), an integral partnership that continues to support educators, elevate digital skills initiatives, and encourage the implementation of high‑quality CodeWeek activities across local schools.
