Applications open for the 6th edition of the Advanced Computing Projects Competition

The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), through its FCCN digital services unit, will launch, from 10 September, the 6th edition of the Advanced Computing Projects Competition , offering applications for all types of access: A0 – Experimental Access, A1 – Development Access, A2 – Regular Access and A3 – Larger Access .

Objectives and scope

This competition promotes access to advanced computing resources of high performance by the scientific and innovation community in Portugal, contributing to accelerate projects in multiple scientific and technological areas. The resources made available cover national and European supercomputers, including Deucalion and MareNostrum 5, infrastructures that are part of the EuroHPC network and are financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Access typologies

• A0 – Experimental Access (up to 6 months): intended for teams with no previous experience or who want first contacts with the systems.
• A1 – Access Development (3 to 12 months): for performance testing, scalability and code optimization.
• A2 – Regular access (12 months): for teams with consolidated experience in the use of advanced computing resources.
• A3 – Larger access (12 months): reserved for large-scale projects with very high computational needs.

As in previous editions, the competition aims to expand and democratise access to state-of-the-art computing resources, supporting from emerging teams to large-scale projects. This edition maintains the focus on the diversity of accesses, reinforcing Portugal’s integration into the European supercomputing network and promoting the efficient use of available infrastructures.

Briefing on 10 October

To support interested candidates, it is planned to hold an online information session on 10 October , which will present the details of the competition and clarify doubts about the application process.

All information on deadlines, regulations and supporting documents is available on the FCT portal, on the page dedicated to the competition. The first batch of applications will be open until 10 November, with a further 4 batches foreseen at later stages.

On October 22 and 23, the 5th Advanced Computing Meeting will be held in the building of the Rectory of the University of Aveiro, where it will be possible to obtain more information about the contest.
