Background

In line with the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) and the Digital Services Act, this challenge supports infrastructure development and coordination for fact-checking. It complements existing EDMO and EFCSN efforts to counter disinformation in vulnerable regions.

Objectives

1.    Expand fact-checking capacity in countries/languages with insufficient services.
2.    Develop emergency response systems in the context of the rise of disinformation.
3.    Protect fact-checkers from legal, cyber, psychological threats and harassment.
4.    Equip fact-checkers with training, tools and expertise.
5.    Promote cooperation through mutual support and networking.
6.    Build a centralized fact-checking repository with dashboard API features.
7.    Explore sustainable business models for fact-checkers.

Eligibility criteria
  • A multi-beneficiary consortium is mandatory.
  • Legal persons (public or private) established in the EU or associated countries.
  • It must complement, not duplicate, the activities of EDMO .
Timeline
  • Start date: 25 April 2025
  • Deadline: 2 September 2025, 17:00 CEST (Brussels time)
  • Evaluation: September-October 2025
  • Signed grant agreements: February 2026
  • Duration of the project: up to 36 months (by early 2028)
