SUMMARY:Unwrapping the Digital Divide Episode 4: Art and digital (in)equity: How can art be leveraged for digital inclusion?
DESCRIPTION:On May 7\, 2024\, DigiCo is hosting the fourth webinar of their series ‘Unwrapping the Digital Divide’. Their fourth episode will focus on: ‘Art and digital (in)equity: How can art be leveraged for digital inclusion?‘ \nIn this 40-minute Lightning Talk\, DigiCo invites Dr Alicja Pawluczuk (HYSTERA) to discuss the roles of [participatory] art and experiential learning in digital equity community practice and research. Join the event to explore the intersection of art and digital equity. The event will run from 12:00 to 12:40pm CEST and is free to attend\, but registration is required. \nAbout the speaker\nWith over a decade of experience in using art for digital inclusion and literacy\, Dr Pawluczuk will share her work as a founder and educator at Digital Beez\, her community artistic practice at Hystera and Endo Violence Collective \, and as a researcher and curator of the IN+ ART Iterations at Leeds University’s IN+ Network. This presentation intends to explore if/how artistic approaches can \, challenge\, reshape\, and enrich our understanding of digital inclusivity. Grounded in the IN+ Principles\, Dr Pawluczuk will argue that art spaces should be focused on “not on getting digital equity “right” by conventional standards\, but rather on collectively delving into alternative ways of experiencing it” (IN+ART). By uncovering and engaging with the subtle and often overlooked aspects of digital [in]equity\, Dr Pawluczuk aims to showcase the power of art in creating a more inclusive digital landscape. \nAbout DigiCo\nThe Digital Collective is a non-profit organisation advocating for the digital inclusion of marginalised communities. DigiCo works to enable digital inclusion at three levels: \n\nDeveloping tech-enabling solutions for digital inclusion: designing solutions that bring people closer to the labour market through access to lifelong learning\, for example\nSupport Digital Literacy training: delivering services and support to local organisations actively working in digital inclusion for marginalised groups\nAwareness-raising campaigns and policy advocacy: produce campaigns focusing on the importance of basic digital skills for life and work\, ultimately advocating for a culture of inclusion and lifelong learning
